Our 25th Wedding Anniversary Celebration – Part III (Restful Sunshine)

On the day of anniversary, Jeanne and I spent most of our time in the spa exercising and relaxing.  After that we decided to get all gussied up and have appetizers at View 180 where we met a nice young couple named the Meisels from Brooklyn. We had fun chatting with them and trading some pictures before heading back to our room.

Back at the room, I treated Jeanne to a special in-room dining experience I arranged with Sam Williams, the Chef De Cuisine for the resort. The staff had set up the room and brought flowers while we were up at View 180.  I worked with Sam to create a menu that focused on healthy and organic dishes made from fresh local ingredients.  The food was fantastic, and the staff took great care of us, returning to the room for each course as if we were dining in a restaurant. We toasted to our amazing journey together and Jeanne enjoyed a nice glass of wine.  I passed on the wine due to my well established allergy.

We both decided that this trip would be our Anniversary gift to each other, forgoing the traditional “silver”. We focused instead on giving the gift of words.  My gift to Jeanne was this blog post series (see Part I and Part II).  She read my first two posts earlier in the day and loved them.  Her gift to me were two journals she had written over the past year with reflections on our life together.  Much blubbering and smooching ensued, followed by some fun trivia games and a viewing of our wedding video.  complete with lots of big 80’s New Jersey hairdo’s and Aunt Peggy dancing the Tarantella while exhorting me to learn how to make “the gnocchi’s”.  It was a perfect evening.

The rest of the week went by fast.  Lots of exercise and relaxation in the spa, and some short trips to Cottonwood, Jerome and the Upper Red Rock Loop.  We particularly enjoyed Jerome, an old west mining town that has been reborn as a funky arts and cultural destination. Jeanne bought gifts for everyone she has ever met. Yes, I’m going to pay for that comment.

We rarely go to the same place twice, but we’ve already started talking about returning next year, this place is so beautiful and peaceful.  As I write this on our flight home, I’m feeling very grateful. Despite the many challenges air travel poses for disabled people, we finished this trip safe and sound with no mishaps feeling rested and rejuvenated.  We can’t wait to see our “hairy son”, our dog Charlie.  Thank you all for your love and support and for reading these blog posts, I hope you enjoyed them as much as I enjoyed writing them.
